Hello From The Outback Part 1

Dear Mum,

I am having a wow of a time with my holiday Mum & Dad. This is me arriving on the station. We are so far away from anyone. It takes 1.5 hours to get to the nearest town and the mail only comes once a week.




Can you see my ears bending in the breeze? Yesterday we did a water-run and so much happened. I have lots of photos already so sit back and enjoy them.





On our water-run we checked the solor panel at the house dam to make sure it was on. This is to pump water up to the house at the homestead so that I can have a bath tonight.




Jacky and Jody were my travelling chums on the water-run. My holiday Dad was the driver and holiday Mum was opening all the gates.




This is called a trough and its for the sheep to drink out of when they are in their paddocks. I didn't have a drink because there was green bits in it. I was having fresh water from the ute.




I got out of the ute to help open the gate and I got a nasty prickle in my foot.




It hurt so much, but I felt a lot better once I had a band-aid put on it.

Thank goodness my holiday parents have the internet. I'll email some more photos(about the water-run) tonight and you can post them for me tomorrow.

Boy for a little pig, you sure do get around. I am so glad you are having a wonderful adventure in the outback. Thanks goodness for the internet, otherwise your postcards would only be sent once a week.

Postcard From Whyalla.

Dear Mum,

Hello from Whyalla. Took a while to get here as its up north of Adelaide and its a lovely place to visit. The first photo shows you the city centre from "Hummock Hill" that is down near the foreshore.




"Bang Bang"... this gun was used in WW 2, to protect the city and industry.




Whyalla has a great marina area and this Easter its their 19th snapper fishing competition. Lots of people come from all over for this competition.

Also Whyalla has the largest cuttlefish breeding grounds in the world. So its great to see a wonderful marina so that scuba divers can use the area to get on a boat and go and see the cuttlefish too.




The foreshore is a lovely family area. Great beach for swimming and a lovely little cafe for ice creams, hot food and coffees. Lovely gardens that can be walked through and have wedding photos taken there.




This is "One Steal" formally known as "B.H.P". This is the pellet plant, where they make iron ore into pellets for export overseas.



The iron ore jetty where the ships berth to load their cargo. If the ship is too big to berth at the jetty, they load barges and take the pellets to the ships out in the deep channel.

All the photos were taken at Hummock Hill.

So there you have it mum, I've now been to Whyalla. I miss you and dad heaps. But I am still not ready to come home yet.

I'm now off to see and stay a while with a family who live in the outback.

They don't have pigs there, only cows and sheep.

Dear Percy,

Gosh you do have the travel bug at the moment. Whyalla sounds so nice and lots to see there too. I am wishing I could have a coffee down on the foreshore.

We're keeping busy back here and can't wait to hear about your outback adventures.

Christmas In January???

Goodness time flies when its Christmas time. Percy sent me these photos while he was on is way to Whyalla, with Christmas and then me having a summer cold... and the games on Face Book...... I had almost forgotten to post them. Sorry about that readers/fans of Percy.


Dear Mum,

I have been to see the lights of Lobethal and what a lovely time I had.

We walked along the streets and was tempted with hot foods like a snag in bread or an egg & bacon sandwich. Eat more chicken I tell you. To strawberries and icecream and fresh cherries from the Adelaide Hills.

After a feed and look at the market stalls it was off to see what was happening light wise.







There are 2 light trails you can follow and the best way is by car. Or if your really wanting to not drive and look, try a bus tour.

The special highlight in my books was the nativity scene that not only has real babies from the local towns playing Jesus.... but some real farm animals. Alpacas, sheep, camels.

I even got to meet some of the stars too.





This young man and donkey were very nice and we had a lovely chat. The donkey's mane was very coarse to touch.



Look at me with a couple of birds from the nativity show. This dove was so quiet and didn't fly away at all.

If you want a lovely evening why not try and get there this coming year. Here is a website that will have some info about it, you can bookmark it for this coming December.

I am sorry I didn't get your postcard up around the Christmas week. Sounds like you gad a wonderful time and what about meeting some of the local stars of the nativity show. Very special indeed.

Can't wait to see your trip to Whyalla. Stay cool, remember your sun block and drink lots of water, as its so hot back home.

Farm Visit Part 3

Dear Mum,

I went outside the sheds and found this huge pile of hay and couldn't resist climbing over them, I even saw a mouse. I was glad the hawk didn't come looking for his dinner, or he may have eaten me.

Aren't you glad about that mum??





I helped Richard, he's the farmer.... to move his tractor and I enjoyed that.






The cabin is very comfortable.


Then I helped Carey (Jude's hubby) to mow the lawns. I got to ride on this great mower. But it was a bit noisy and it took a long time , lots of grass to mow.




Next day Charlie, Jude's grandson took me for a ride on his new bike. I enjoyed that.



We then had to go home. Andy and I were so tired, we had to go to bed for a rest.

Thanks Jude, I had a great time at the farm with your family.

Next time we talk mum, I'll be showing you some Christmas lights I saw.

My goodness you did have a fun visit at Jude's farm. How lucky were you to get to see all those wonderful animals and get to ride on some cool machines. Very glad the hawk didn't eat you too.

My Farm Visit Pt 2

Dear Mum,

Sorry I haven't written, I have been having a wow of a time. Here's some new postcard photos of my holiday.







We stopped so I could have a look at some sheep, but they wouldn't come talk to me, silly sheep.





We next went and saw the shearing sheds. This is where those sheep have their wool taken off and made into socks.




Here I am standing on some wool bales. They are waiting to go to the wool shed.




I am playing in the wool that has not been put into bales yet. Its so soft but feels greasy, I hope it makes me feel soft.



Next I met some kelpie dogs, they help to keep the sheep in order.

My Farm Visit Pt 1

Dear Mum,

Mum today I started my farm visit. I met Andy, Jude's dog and mum you won't believe it, he tried to sniff my bottom.

I said, "Hey Andy! There will be no funny business thanks and he stopped".





After we arrived Andy & I stretched our legs in the garden & then I went for a farm tour in the ute.

Roger That.

This week Percy travelled to the Airforce Base in Edinburgh, South Australia with flight Sargeant Glen McCarthy. He was able to see an F18 Hornet. Unfortunately they weren't flying, so he couldn't take a spin in the F18 Hornet.
