Final Postcard From Townsville

Mum mum mum mum,

D'you know how I saw that crocodile..... well when we were finished looking at the Wallaman, we saw a big black emu with a blue neck and two red dangle things! I said "Crikey, look there's a bleedin' big chick over there, it looks like a bleedin' emu!" and holiday dad said "That no bleedin' emu pig, thats a Cassowary and its a male and they does all the looking after the little cassowaries!" and then I said, "Lookout there's two chicks with 'im and he's coming right for us!"

While male cassowaries can be dangerous when they are looking after young ones and they have a big toe which they use as a defence weapon and they can tear ya guts out. So you are meant to put your backpack on your front and carefully walk away backwards.

Well holiday dad turned his backpack around and that meant I was in the first line of defence!!!

I said, "Crikey holiday dad, that bleedin' emu is gonna gut me first before it guts you!" and holiday dad just said "Its a cassowary pig, a cassowary..."

Well after we reached safety we saw these two little birds, one is a Spectacled Monarch because he can't see without his glasses (Fred Hollows should get onto that one) and the other

is a Eastern Yellow Robin, so I started singing, "When the Rob Rob Robin, comes Bop Bop Bobbing along..." and holiday dad said "It's a yellow robin pig, a yellow one..."

After we left Ingham we went back to Townsville and me and holiday dad rode our bikes around looking for Townsville icons so I could get my photo taken.

We found two.

The Sugar Shaker is a hotel in the middle of town.

Castle Hill is a big pink rock (I like pink) in the middle of town.

The last photo is me standing on top of Mt Marlow, over looking the Town Common (Townsville wetlands) and in the distance you can see Castle Hill (on the left) and a bit of the suburbs. The airport is the other side of the swamp.

Goodbye Townsville!

Eat more chicken.

Love
Percy.

Dear Percy,

My word you sure had some exciting times in this postcard. Those birds are so pretty.
I love the "sugar shaker" what a great name for the building.

Good to read you were out getting some exercise with bike ridding too.

Thanks so much to Holiday mum & dad for hosting you up in Townsville and showing you around.

Now hurry home as Amy's getting married this weekend and your booked on the honeymoon cruise to Fiji with them.

Love
Mum

Tea Rooms Pt 2

Dear Mum,

At the tea rooms is an old train tunnel that goes under the mountain. Here are some pics of me looking at it from a distance.

Here I am at the other side if the tunnel.

Behind me is the old train line that goes into the tunnel.

Wonder if I should take a closer look at the tunnel?

We went inside the tunnel and there was a snake and there were lots of bats. Lots of darkness and there were lots more bats and more bats still!!!!

One of the bats brushes up against me! Oink!

Yay made it to the other side.

Uncle PNG Steve says they eat bats in PNG!

Eat more bats.

Love
Percy.

Dear Percy,

I loved the bat and snake photos. I haven't seen a lot of bats in my life time, closest was back in 1980. Love snakes and I have a photo of me holding a big python.

Love all the greenery in the photos and glad you didn't get run over by a ghost train.

Love
Mum.

Tea Rooms Pt 1

Hi Mum,

We went to Hervey's Tea Rooms and had a cup of tea. But none of that $50 coffee!!
Its really nice and green up here and its much cooler than Townsville and real country fresh air.

There is a waterfall with Pandanus.

The cow paddock is nice and green.

There is a creek next to the tea rooms.

Also at the tea rooms, you can go on a nature walk and see heaps of pretty Butterflies and spiders.

Check them out mum!!!

Pretty cool huh mum??

Eat more chicken.

Love
Percy.

Dear Percy,

How about that, drinking tea in a tea room, sounds like my sort of outing. All that greenery is lovely. We have a tinge of green back home here now.

Those spider photos are so cool....love spiders. Butterflies are pretty too.

Love
Mum.

More From Percy

Hey Mum,

I should get a job with Keith Conlin eh?

I have had some fun mum,I saw this strange sculpture behind me at Dan Gleeson's Garden. Up here in the tropic there are two days of the year when the sun is directly over head and nothing casts a shadow.

These sculptures capture that light and make all of the pretty patterns with their coloured glass.

Then in Anderson's Garden, I got confused, this sign told me to go "One Way", but the arrow was heading in two directions.

These Queenslanders sure are kooky!

Then I saw the "Speed Trap" sign and I just had to have my photo taken.

I'm saying "Slow Down or the Pig will get ya!"

Ha ha ha!

Eat more chicken.

Love
Percy.

Dear Percy,

Love those signs, the one way is so funny. Those garden visits have been lovely to read about.

Love
Mum.

Garden Visits Pt 2

Hey Mum,

Check out the Bamboo!

I found these in Anderson's Garden.

I reckon I'd get lost if I went inside!

So many tree shots to show you.

There is a Big Qld Bottle Tree, just like a camel, this tree can store water in its big fat belly just for droughts and stuff. Maybe Homestead Holiday dad needs some of these?

Here I am climbing a Palm Tree, which it has been claimed, has the largest Biomass of any tree in the world........I still don't know what that means.

Look at the crazy bark on this tree.

Then I got trapped inside a Fig Tree. Heelllppppp!!!!

Love Percy.

Dear Percy,

Sorry there has been a delay in posting your photos here. Getting very close to real sister Amy's wedding. I hope you'll be back here in time, as you are going on the honeymoon with them.

Love those tree photos. I like bamboo, its such a great plant.

Love

Mum.

Petunia has left for America at 6 am this morning. Her photos will come home with her. I do hope her holiday family have the most wonderful holiday.

Here are some shots of being silly at Dan Gleeson Gardens and at Anderson's Gardens.

The big sausages come from a sausage tree.

The big green fruit are called Elephant Puzzle Fruit.

And they tied me up to a Pandanus! Anus nothing, that looks like a big *^%$!!!!!!!!!

More to come tomorrow of these amazing gardens.

Bye Percy.

Eat more beef sausages.

Dear Percy,

Well you sure have come across some strange fruits in your travels. You seem to be growing up and becoming more worldly in your posts too.

A little tip from your mum, size doesn't matter, okay sweetie.........

Glad to see in the last photo, you had your safety harness on.

Postcard From Queensland

Dear Mum,

I have arrived at my holiday home in Queensland and its so green and my holiday parents are really nice people. Already there are lots of photos for you to see.

Look at my new friend, he's pink like me and guess what!!!! His name is Percy too. Percy took me around him home and showed me lots of interesting things.

Look how green it is in the background. All that space too. Great for running around and also for growing lots of vegies and mangoes.

Speaking of mangoes, check us out up a mango tree.

Holiday mum in into pottery and so I got to see inside her kiln.I wonder if she's like me to model for her. Do you think she'd like to do a pottery scene with me like on "Ghost"?

I went up into the loft looking for possums, as we don't have them around our house at home. But I didn't find any.

So then I went and checked out their new chook house. Boy will they enjoy those fresh backyard eggs once their hens start to lay them.

Queensland has been having a lot of rain and so I thought I'd check out the rain gauge. Gee its lovely and clean from all that rain.

I even got up close to a fruit called Soursop.

Met a "Pukpuk" (means crocodile in PNG) sure glad its only a carving.

Do you like my hat? Its a party hat from PNG. Holiday dad's mate Steve said that PNG pigs have bigger heads.

As you can see its full on here in "Mangolia" That's what holiday dad calls his place. I like that name and think its cool.

Love

Percy.

Dear Percy,

So glad you arrived okay and boy your first postcard is very full of exciting news. I so love the greenness in the photos and I just love your new little friend.

Have fun and can't wait for your next postcard.

Love
